How to Make Mexican Strawberries and Cream
Making Mexican strawberries and cream is super easy. Basically it’s just slicing and mixing, then filling and pouring.
The first step is to pour the Mexican crema, the media crema, and the sweetened condensed milk into a medium-sized bowl. Mix until it’s well combined.
Next, mix in the pure vanilla extract until well combined. Taste and if desired you can add more vanilla and sweetened condensed milk.
Next, you can refrigerate the crema mix for 15 minutes. Or you can mix in the strawberries then refrigerate the whole thing. It’s up to you.
Once the cremas are mixed and chilled, you can serve your dessert.
While the crema is resting you can prep the strawberries. Rinse thoroughly, pat dry with a paper towel. Then either slice or quarter them.
Traditionally this dessert is served in disposable plastic cups, but it’s a good idea to avoid single-use plastics whenever possible. So grab some cute glasses to serve your fresas con crema.
Some people like to mix the strawberries into the cream then chill. I like to layer the strawberries into the glass first then add a good drizzle of the crema mix over them. Then repeat until I have a few layers. It’s up to you how many, but keep in mind this recipe makes 4 servings.
Substitutions and Variations
If you can’t get Mexican crema where you live, then use crème fraiche.
You can get media crema at Hispanic markets or in the Mexican food aisle at your grocery store. There’s also always Amazon. A good substitution for Media crema is heavy cream.
In addition to the vanilla extract, some people like to also add some ground cinnamon.
Can you Make This Dessert Ahead of Time
Yes you can!
After you’ve mixed the milks with the vanilla extract, add in the chopped or quartered strawberries. Mix until well combined and then refrigerate until ready to use.
How Long Will This Keep Fresh
It will store well in the refrigerator for no more than 2 days.
This dessert is one you want to make and eat the same day.
