This recipe for  making masa for tamales doesn't use lard. This traditional Mexican recipe will make the most delicious tamales. It also happens to be vegan and perfect for  everyone!


Masa harina, baking powder, salt, vegetable broth & shortening 


Whip the shortening, add some masa harina, salt & baking powder then whip again


Slowly add more broth and masa harina until you have the perfect consistency


The masa for tamales should be well hydrated, smooth and light and airy


You can do a float test of the masa to make sure it's perfectly airy if it doesn't float, whip some more.
