Inexpensive Vegetarian Grocery Haul

Have you ever wonder what an inexpensive vegetarian grocery trip looks like? Here’s my grocery haul video where I share some great tips for savings and for being successful at both stocking your kitchen and sticking to a meat-free lifestyle!

Inexpensive Vegetarian Grocery Haul

Hola amigos! Today I have something a little different to share, I made this video to let you see what a typical grocery haul looks like in my home.

As many of you already know, we are Pescetarians but even so about 99% of the time and the foods we eat are vegetarian and vegan. Our grocery trips are nearly always vegetarian and it’s a rare exception when we buy seafood for us. This last big grocery run I really wanted to show you what I typically buy to stock our pantry and refrigerator.

With the exception of maybe the Poblano peppers, all of these food items are available all over the World and at all supermarkets. It doesn’t matter where you live, you can stock your pantry and fridge like I do.

My goal with this video is to show you that it doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive, nor that one must have to rely on packaged ready-made meatless foods items if you want to eat healthy and follow a vegetarian, vegan or plant-based diet.

Please watch the video right below this text, then read the highlighted tips underneath the video.

Keep it Simple

As you can see in the video I keep things quite simple and basic. I don’t rely on faux meats, soy products, or expensive and difficult to find ingredients. It took me a while to figure out that this “sticking to basics” was much easier for meal planning, and not to mention lighter on the wallet, but I wholeheartedly believe that this simplicity and the tips I mentioned in the video have been the reason why going Pescetarian (and vegan & vegetarian the majority of time) are why I’ve been able to do this for 2.5 years without once wanting to go back to the lifestyle I had before.

The absolute key to success for those currently following (or are just starting out, or hoping to start) a Pescetarian, vegetarian, vegan, or whole foods plant-based lifestyle, is preparation. Yes, it really is as simple as that! Below are the highlights to the video and what I strongly believe can help anyone be successful in following or transitioning to this kind of lifestyle.

• Make a meal plan

• From your meal plan build your grocery list — do look through your pantry and refrigerator to see if you already have what’s needed.

• Always buy seasonal! You’ll not only enjoy the freshest fruits and vegetables, you’ll also save money. Produce that’s in season will be cheaper and there’s always special enticing offers.

• Keep an eye out for what’s on sale when you go shopping. There are some amazing deals out there if you keep an eye on things.

• Don’t rely on faux meat, or “fancy” ingredients. Try to focus on more basics and make the faux meats and fancy ingredients an every once in a great while thing.

• Stock your pantry with legumes, beans, rices, pastas, and any grains you like (for example quinoa, amaranth, barley, bulgur…) For the legumes and beans if you buy dried it’s cheaper than canned, but either are fine.

• Stock the pantry with you favourite herbs, spices, and natural seasonings at all times.

• Fill the freezer with frozen fruits and vegetables. Both are just as healthy as the fresh (just Google it) and on busy days they’re perfect to use with minimal effort.

• If you spiralize vegetables freeze the scraps to make veggie broth once you have enough of them.

• Treat yourself once in a while, but don’t go overboard with sweet treats and sugary drinks.

Well, that it amigo! Nothing overly spectacular, but my goal with sharing this is just to show you how you don’t have to spend loads of money or be limited with only processed foods if you want to eat healthy and follow a vegetarian, vegan or plant-based diet.

The key to success with this kind of lifestyle is to just stock your pantry and fridge with simple ingredients you like to eat and know how to cook. Believe me, if you have fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables, some grains and beans, and a few spices, you’ll always be able to create a pretty amazing and healthy meal. I promise you’re body will thank you for it.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed the video and article. Do feel free to ask any questions or give me your feedback on what you’d like to see next.

Happy cooking!

  1. Great Post! The only problem is that every time I make a meal plan, I get to the market and see all of the new seasonal vegetables and totally change my mind. 🙂 However, that’s o.k., because, just like you suggested, I have a wonderfully stock pantry. My BIL calls me a food hoarder. Ha Ha
